Every Indian bank encrypts their e-statements with a password. The problem? Each bank uses a different formula — and some banks use multiple formulas depending on whether it's a savings account, credit card, or loan statement.

Instead of Googling each one separately, here's every major bank's password format in one quick-reference cheat sheet. Bookmark this page — you'll need it again.

📋 The Master Cheat Sheet

SBI (State Bank of India)

  • Most common: Last 5 digits of mobile number + DOB in DDMMYY → e.g. 43210120590
  • Alternative: Full 11-digit account number
  • YONO app: DOB in DDMMYYYY → e.g. 12051990
  • 📖 Full SBI password guide with examples →

HDFC Bank

  • Savings/Current: 9-digit Customer ID → e.g. 987654321
  • Credit Card: First 4 letters of name + DOB (DDMM) → e.g. RAHU1508
  • 📖 Full HDFC password guide →

ICICI Bank

  • Savings/Current: DOB in DDMMYYYY → e.g. 05051985
  • Credit Card: First 4 letters of name (lowercase) + DOB (DDMM) → e.g. rahu1210

Axis Bank

  • Standard: First 4 letters of name (UPPERCASE) + DOB (DDMM) → e.g. SNEH0404
  • Alternative: First 4 letters of name + 9-digit Customer ID

Kotak Mahindra Bank

  • Standard: Your CRN (Customer Relationship Number)
  • Don't know your CRN? Text "CRN" to 9971056767 from your registered number

Union Bank of India

  • Standard: First 4 letters of name (UPPERCASE) + DOB (DDMM) → e.g. ROHI2211
  • Short first name? Bank pulls letters from middle/last name (no spaces)
  • 📖 Full Union Bank password guide →

Airtel (Postpaid / Broadband Bills)

  • Unique code assigned to your account (not based on name/DOB)
  • To retrieve: SMS "ebill password" to 121 from your Airtel number

💡 Quick Tips That Apply to All Banks

  • Case sensitivity matters. If RAHU1508 doesn't work, try rahu1508 (or vice versa)
  • Leading zeros count. If your DOB is 5th March, type 0503, not 53
  • Use the name in bank records. If the bank misspelled your name when opening the account, you need to match their spelling
  • Check the email. Many banks include the password hint in the email body itself — we often miss it because we skip straight to the attachment

❓ FAQ

Is it safe to use online PDF unlockers for bank statements?

We'd recommend against it for financial documents. Most online tools upload your file to their servers for processing. For a document with your full account number and transaction history, use Arcanize instead — it processes everything locally on your device.

Can I ask my bank to send statements without a password?

Unfortunately, no. RBI guidelines require banks to encrypt e-statements sent via email. You can view statements without passwords by logging into your bank's Net Banking portal directly.
