- Capital letters. Name letters are normally in capitals. If capitals fail, try lowercase once.
- Name spelling. HDFC uses the name on its records or on the card, including any spelling mistake made when the account was opened.
- Leading zeros. A birthday on 5 March is
0503, not53. - Extra spaces. Copying a password from a message often adds a space at the end.
- The right statement. Account statements and credit card statements use different passwords. Check which one you are opening.

Once you know the password, you can save a copy that opens without it. This is useful when a loan, visa or tax portal will not accept a locked PDF.
