How to add a watermark to a PDF
A watermark marks a document as a draft, a copy or confidential, and makes it harder to reuse an ID copy for something you didn't intend.
Type your text, choose the layout and strength, and check the preview. The watermark is added on your device, so the original document never leaves it.

Add a watermark to a PDF in 4 steps
- Click Select File and choose your PDF, or drop it onto the page.
- Type the watermark text and choose its layout, size, transparency and colour.
- Click Add Watermark.
- Click Download File to save the watermarked PDF.
Good to know
- Text watermarks only. Image and logo watermarks are not supported yet.
- The text can use English letters, numbers and common symbols. Hindi and other scripts are not supported yet.
- The watermark is added on top of the page content. Someone with PDF editing software could remove it, so it is a deterrent rather than a lock.
- Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first.

How do I add a watermark to a PDF for free?
Select the PDF, type your watermark text, click Add Watermark and download the result. It is free and needs no account.
Should I watermark my Aadhaar or PAN card copy?
It is a good habit. A watermark like "For HDFC account opening only" with the date makes the copy much harder to misuse for another purpose.
Will the watermark hide my text?
Not at Light or Medium transparency. The text underneath stays readable. Use the preview to check before downloading.
Can the watermark be removed?
Anyone with PDF editing software and some effort could remove it. Watermarks discourage misuse; use Protect PDF if the file must not be opened by others.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The watermark is added by your browser on your own device.
